Why Not Me, Why Not You?

belief drives behavior dreams growth
Painted sign with the words

This was the moment I decided to change my situation...what was or is your moment?

I was 10 years old, sweeping off the sidewalk outside the back door of our broken down old farmhouse. My verbally and physically abusive alcoholic father pulled in driving his old beat up Rambler with a case of beer, and my mom headed out to Bingo.

In that moment, I promised myself: “this will not be my life!”

It was a decision to do whatever I could to change the trajectory of my situation.

Since then, there's been success in my career, I graduated from GA State with an MBA having never gone to undergrad, married the most amazing man, had 2 beautiful children, and have done a lot of cool stuff.

Of course, there’s other stuff in between but the point is:

If someone had shown me this life when I was a little girl, it would have been completely foreign.

Sometimes when walking our dog, I challenge myself to see our neighborhood and my life through the eyes of that little girl and realize how far I’ve come and how blessed I am.

What are the blessings you have in your life that you never imagined?

We all have something challenging in our lives or in our past, but those circumstances or situations do not define who you can be or what you can achieve in your life! (can you see that I'm passionate about that?:))

This is my story, what is yours?

Some others that have inspired me and  you will recognize that didn’t let their circumstances define them are:

  • J.K. Rowling: Author of the Harry Potter series, Joanne was an aspiring writer and single mother living on welfare with her young daughter in an unheated, mice-infested flat. Her first book was rejected by 12 publishers before the world met Harry Potter in 1997.
  • Oprah Winfrey: Born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Oprah had a mountain of obstacles already in front of her as a newborn baby... she was born to unwed teenage parents, she was female, she was black, and she was poor. She endured a lot of set backs in her childhood which included sexual abuse and a teenage pregnancy to a stillborn baby. She took this as a sign to turn her life around. At 19 she landed her first reporting job in Nashville then went on from there to Baltimore then Chicago hosting talk shows. Then in 1986 she started the Oprah Winfrey show. And, as they say: the rest is history.

These are just a couple of examples of people who came from nothing and have now  accomplished incredible things.

What made them become these “special” people? They have done some awesome things but so have you! Give yourself a pat on the back.

You are all capable of continuing to do great things, regardless of your circumstances.(yes, I'm saying it again:))

So I want you to say to yourself “Why not me?”!

YOU are capable of creating and  living your best life!

The choices you make define the outcomes you will have. Move in the direction of your destiny. Know that you are capable of so much more than you think.

Identify one small thing you want to do or change and for the next 3 weeks follow what Nike says and “JUST DO IT!” Nothing happens unless you take action...and anything is possible!

You are worthy!
